Your Pancreas

The pancreas is a pinkish, irregularly shaped gland (it looks like a boomerang). It is located behind the stomach to the right. The pancreas produces and secretes hormones and enzymes that help the body digest and process the food we eat. The pancreas secretes hormones and enzymes into the blood (endocrine function) or into the gastrointestinal tract (exocrine function). The pancreas' endocrine job is to produce insulin and glucagon. These hormones are released in response to meals and regulate sugar levels in the blood. Insulin is required to transfer molecules of sugar from the blood to the ... [Read More]

All too often the accepted method of practice is to treat symptoms by masking them with prescription drugs. The cause is ignored. I believe each and every one of us should practice Self-Health. About Candice Rosen

Welcome to my website! As a Registered Nurse with a Master's Degree in Social Work and a Certification in Health Counseling from the Institute for Integrative Nutrition, I have spent my life’s work focused on improving the wellness of both my clients and my community. I believe the body has the ability to heal itself from most (NCDs) non-communicable diseases if given the tools: proper nutrition, effective stress management techniques and consistent low impact exercising. Food is Medicine! Meditation is Healing! And exercise is the ultimate expression of health!

My experiences as a clinical therapist and a nurse give me a unique perspective when it comes to nutritional counseling. I understand the medical and psychological components that must be addressed in order to achieve health goals and targeted weight loss results. I know it isn’t easy. Food addiction is a result of food habits. Habits become addictions. I will help you break your food habit, which will eliminate your addiction. My background is extensive. I began my career as a scrub nurse, followed by nursing in medical intensive care, dialysis, school nursing and research. As the founding member of Gilda’s Club Chicago and its first executive director and program director, I created and coordinated a diverse array of wellness-related programs.

Since my move from Chicago to Los Angeles, I stepped down as Chairman of Healthcare Initiatives for Chicago’s Sister Cities International Program (CSCIP). CSCIP provided an opportunity to advocate for preventive medicine, improve maternal and infant healthcare, stress disability access, promote nourishing diets, and bring awareness to the obesity and diabetes epidemics that now affect populations on a global level. I developed the Pancreatic Nutritional Program (PNP) over 10 years ago and it has become my mission to educate the general public as to the crucial role the pancreas plays in overall health, wellness and optimal weight.

My book, The Pancreatic Oath (released in 2011), is based on the many clients with conditions such as diabetes, cardiovascular disease, obesity, metabolic syndrome, polycystic ovarian syndrome and kidney disease that were able to reverse their symptoms by following my methods. All too often the accepted method of practice is to treat symptoms by masking them with prescription drugs. The cause is ignored. I believe each and every one of us should practice Self-Health. You are your primary caregiver; your physician is your secondary caregiver. Each and every day, we must be held accountable for how we treat our bodies and what we put in our bodies...from the food we eat to the media we consume. Addressing the source of an illness is more important than treating the consequences. By healing the root of disease, we cannot only heal the body, but prevent future crises.

What is the pancreas and what does it do?

The pancreas is a pinkish, irregularly shaped gland (it looks like a boomerang). It is located behind the stomach to the right. The pancreas produces and secretes hormones and enzymes that help the body digest and process the food we eat. The pancreas secretes hormones and enzymes into the blood (endocrine function) or into the gastrointestinal tract (exocrine function). The pancreas' endocrine job is to produce insulin and glucagon. These hormones are released in response to meals and regulate sugar levels in the blood. Insulin is required to transfer molecules of sugar from the blood to the inside of cells throughout the body. The role of the pancreas in digestion begins the moment you put food into your mouth, this action determines whether you abuse or protect your pancreas and ultimately, compromise your health and your weight.

The Pancreatic Oath

All too often the accepted method of practice is to treat symptoms by masking them with prescription drugs. The cause is ignored. I believe each and every one of us should practice Self-Health. You are your primary caregiver; your physician is your secondary caregiver. Each and every day, we must be held accountable for how we treat our bodies and what we put in our bodies...from the food we eat to the media we consume. Addressing the root of an illness is more important than treating the consequences. A lifestyle of health can reverse disease, prevent future health issues and reduce weight.

About The Books

A revolutionary guide to Self-Health! Are you one of millions who fuel the billion dollar diet industry? Diet after diet...you've tried and yet have failed to achieve your long-term goals. You are not alone. The Pancreatic Oath is a revolutionary new book from registered nurse, licensed social worker and certified health counselor Candice Rosen that introduces the cutting-edge Pancreatic Nutritional Program (PNP). Simply, the PNP provides readers with an understanding of how their body processes the food they choose to eat, how it affects their pancreas, and the domino effect that poor choices have on their weight and their health. In this groundbreaking new book you will learn about: Pancreatic abuse-signs and causes The relationship between the pancreas, diabetes and other chronic health issues The ten essentials of the PNP™ How to test blood glucose levels and what they mean Sample meal choices and recipes From weight gain to diabetes to heart disease, what you eat and how that food affects the pancreas has a direct effect on your health. It can cause or prevent future disease. It can cause you to gain or lose weight. The Pancreatic Oath peels away the mystery that surrounds the functioning of the often overlooked, but terribly important gland called the pancreas. Live and eat not just for today. Eat for all the tomorrows! Candice Rosen, R.N., B.S., M.S.W., C.H.C. is the Founder, Executive Director and Principal Health Counselor of the Pancreatic Nutritional Program (PNP™). Candice has spent her life's work focused on improving the wellness of both her clients and her community. Her experiences as a clinical therapist and as a nurse give her a unique perspective when it comes to nutrition counseling. As the Chair of Healthcare Initiatives for Chicago's Sister Cities International Program, she works to advocate preventative medicine, improve disability access, promote maternal and infant health, and bring awareness to the global obesity and diabetes epidemics. She and her husband are the parents of four children.
